Design Committee Mission Statement

As members of the Design Committee of St. Eugene Catholic Church, we humbly ask for the Wisdom and Courage of the Holy Spirit as we seek to represent the needs of our community, and work to raise up a holy place where God’s Word and Sacrament will nourish the faith of His people and where His presence will make them holy.

Design Priorities

Design of the building shall be in accordance with the principles outlined in Built of Living Stones.

The beauty of the church should be evidenced in its visual and acoustical presence, and in the order and relation of its various parts.

The building shall serve as a symbol of God’s presence to the surrounding community.

It should reflect the identity and heritage of the Catholic Church.

It shall reflect the unique personality of the parish of Saint Eugene Catholic Church.

It shall have a presence that is distinctive from other churches in the area, both Catholic and non-Catholic.

It should be inspired by styles that have been traditionally used in Catholic architecture (e.g. Romanesque, Gothic, etc.).

It shall be compatible with the existing parish school and other buildings on the parish campus.

Feb. 2007                          Series of educational talks at Masses

Feb. 20 - Mar. 8, 2007       Interviewed architect finalists; due diligence underway

Mar. 20, 2007                  Architectural Design Group selected as architect; Schematic Design Phase begins

April 12, 2007                    Reception and information/feedback session with seniors

April - May 2007                Parish Survey administered

May 5, 2007                       “Gaming” session held to explore site and floor plan options

What we are doing …

·         A professional cost estimator is preparing a cost estimate for the schematic design.

·         The architects of ADG are beginning to consult with engineering firms to estimate requirements for heating & cooling and acoustics and lighting.

·         The Design Committee is researching options for stained glass and other artwork for the new church.

November 2007               Formal discernment / Parish commitment;
