NEW CHURCH CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
JANUARY 2012
Credence Table: Our present credence table is 4' 8" long, 26" deep and stands 32" high. It is dark carved wood and in the front is carved "In Remembrance of Me". The location in the new church is 8' wide so it would be possible to reuse our present credence table, either temporarily or permanently.
Tabernacle: Since our tabernacle is not in proportion to the surroundings of the new church, a new one has been brought in and placed on the altar of repose (in the back of our present church). Similar in style and design only with a new, finer look, you are invited to view our new tabernacle.
Windows: The original designs for the new stained glass windows are being considered with research being conducted by members of the Interior Design Committee. Rooted in faith, tradition and historically beautiful significance, their timeless componets will be used along with the expertise of our stained glass design firm. Due to the length of time needed to design and manufacture them, the windows will be installed throughout the coming months, as they are completed, following the dedication.
Carpets: Two area carpets are needed in the sanctuary: one behind the altar upon which the presider will stand and another beneath the presider and deacons chairs. These are to match (though different in size) and coordinate with the granite flooring beneath.
Walls and Ceiling: Some rooms have been painted and preparations are underway for the church walls and ceilings to be painted next. Some dark wood crown molding has been installed on the ceilings as well.
THE PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
Hello, I am Fr. Joseph Jacobi, pastor of St. Eugene Parish since June 2002. This year our parish celebrates its Golden Anniversary Year, and it is a particularly special time as we emabark on a capital campaign, “A Legacy of Faith: Raising Up a Holy Place,” to construct a new church building. In 1958 Fr. Jim Ross and around 50-75 families founded St. Eugene’s. (St. Eugene was Pope from 654-657 and was the patron saint of Bishop Eugene McGuinness, who died not long before our parish was founded.) From those humble beginnings our parish has grown to over 1200 families, welcoming people of faith from every corner of the world who call our parish their church home. The continents of Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, and North America are all represented here, and parishioners have come from such diverse countries as Canada and Mexico, Nigeria and Vietnam, Cuba and Chile, Venezuela and Guatemala, Columbia and Peru. Every year we celebrate the richness of the many diverse gifts of our parish at the “Festival of the Americas: International.”
We have a vibrant parish with varied ministries in Outreach, Education, Community Life, Administration, and Worship. There is something for everybody to be involved in, for Senior citizens and youth, men and women, Anglo and Hispanic. In addition to the large church community, our parish school was founded in 1959 and now has 347 students in grades Pre-3 through 8th grade that are learning to celebrate the Catholic faith and teachings. There are five different Masses on the weekend: the laid-back Sunday Vigil Mass at 5 p.m. Saturday; the quiet, reflective 8 a.m. Sunday Mass; the traditional English Mass at 10 a.m. Sunday with choir and instruments; the lively 12 noon Spanish Mass; and the 5 p.m. Sunday evening Mass with contemporary music targeting young people.
I invite you to join us in celebrating the word of God!
